A reporter is a type of journalist who researches and presents information in certain types of mass media.

Reporters gather their information in a variety of ways, including tips, press releases, sources (those with newsworthy information) and witnessing events. They perform research through interviews, public records, and other sources. The information-gathering part of the job is sometimes called "reporting" as distinct from the production part of the job, such as writing articles. Reporters generally split their time between working in a newsroom and going out to witness events or interview people.

Most reporters working for major news media outlets are assigned an area to focus on, called a beat or patch. They are encouraged to cultivate sources to improve their information gathering.

Who do we really look up too?

When you watch sport we all have our favourite player we cheer for them we watch them play we have poster all over around our room of them but have you ever stopped and thought what are they like off the field? they could be the nicest guy you have met in your life or they could have a dark background that they want no one to no about. for example Michel Vick ex Atlanta Falcons quarterback current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback on his day one of the most dominate players in the league many fan loved him but when the spot light was off him he was in back allies of America street fighting dogs most of the time to the death for a few extra dollars. Michel Vick was found guilty and was put in prison for 23months.

one of the most resemble sport star that was in trouble with the law was O.J Simpson he is one of the most famous NFL player too play the game he was the first person ever to rush for more then 2000m in one season. O.J was charged with murdering his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldmen in 1994 and was facing 9-33 years in prison after a long trail of nine months the longest jury trail in California history he was found not guilty but 10 years later he was arrested for robbery and kidnapping and was put in jail for 33 years before he was sentenced he begged the judge not to put him in jail. Many people were against O.J Simpson going to jail but the one person that was happy to see him go to jail was Ronald Goldman father he said"that sob deserves whatever he gets and i hope he doesn't get out of jail for the rest of his life".

another person we have looked up to in the past is sonny Liston at one stage one of the most promising boxers in world he won titles and was untouchable at one stage in his career he was the first every black person to win a boxing title and a lot of people had it in for him at the time calling him negro and many other names. sonny Liston was arrested for assault and robbery to not take much crap from people if you insulted him or his wife he wasn't going to take it lightly. Sonny Liston was found guilty and was sentence to 5 years in prison but only served 2 year he was able to get out on early bail. Sonny Liston one of the greatest boxers died from a drug over doze he had a life fear of needles his death is still a mistory.

these are just three players that people have looked up too in the past only too be let down these players have to live with what they have done one has had a 2nd chance at life 1 is dead and 1 is more then likely to be in prison until he dies. Sometimes we have to make sure who we look up too and make sure our kids are looking upo to the right people so the don't do the same thing.

The news media industry is very hard to get into, you have to be prepared for what ever they throw your way. One minute you can be reporting on a plane crash that has kill 58 people and the next minute you could be reporting that an lady has just had her 102nd birthday.

There is some opportunities in this career because there is more new happening around us and not enough journalist to cover all the story so there is jobs in this business if you just look in the right places for it. But you must not think that you are going to get to be a reporter straight away you may have to start at the bottom and work your way up like everyone else has had too.

Most of the jobs are in newspapers and in magazines they don't just look for journalists they look for photo journalists and many more other different types of journalists.

When i got to tafe today Peter came and told me that our computers that we were suppose to use were taken for another half hour so Peter told us to go find a spot any where in the tafe and see what happens in 20 mins with no pen and no paper and come back and write it all down so here's what happened.

when i first sat down the first thing i noticed was that the grass was wet in this area i don't no why the one stop i sat was wet and rest of the grass was dry. another thing i noticed there were a lot of people walking though some were adults some were teenagers just getting here from school. i think i counted in that short time around 83 people and 2 security guards.

the next thing that i had noticed there was a lot of noise coming from the free way right next to me there were a lot of cars going past and they were way to quick to count i was very surprised when i saw one car going that slow that you could see what kind of car it was a Holden Ute read with a pink strip down the side of it.

there was one thing that made me laugh it was when i bird was flying down and shit on a lady's hair i don't think she noticed cause she kept on walking the lady had a pink shirt on with black paints she had dark hair as well.

the thing that got me angry was the bird that would no shut up the whole time i was there they weren't quiet for one minute they were so loud and annoying.

so thats what i saw in the short 20min i was sitting there

The two most common print media are newspapers and magazines, but print media also includes outdoor billboards, transit posters, the yellow pages, and direct mail. Print media is important because it can reach such a large audience, and the great number of specialized publications enable businesses to focus in on a target audience with a specific set of characteristics. Print media are allowed to advertise mostly anything, such as cigarettes, liquor, and contraceptives; however, many publications will not accept controversial ads.

I think there would be a lot of opportunities in print media and remember you don't just have to be a journalist to be in print media you can be a photo journalist, graphic designer, plate makers, ad copywriter etc. There are many more jobs other then these in print media. The main kind of print media is in newspapers and magazines these kind of jobs can be found every where in Australia and overseas.

post 2

I think that technology has changed how we see the news now. I think that the journalist back in the day had a lot more trouble then the journalist have it now back in the day the journalist had to write the story out then take it to the editor but now the journalist get the key facts and messages it to the editor or just ring them and tell then the key facts.

I think that technologies has impacted how the new has been told a lot one way is computers you use to have to wait until you heard it on the radio or wait until 6.00 came around to hear the new and find out what has been happening in the world. But the Internet is the new way to see whats happen all day and every second of the day all the newspaper have their on own website and you can go on their and see what is happen every second of the day.

another way we have heard the news that has change from the furture has been tv's the news is on every night at 6.00 to find out the main head lines thought the day and what the weather will be like though the week.

another way the news will be told is though your i pod touch's and mobile phones these already have applications on them and are just expect to take over the application world
